It is said that Empress Jinko (The god of the 4th Hongu) returned safely even she was pregnant, thanks to the godliness of the shrine. After that, from the legend that she gave birth to Emperor Ojin, it is said that "Sumiyoshi Taisha has the benefit of safe delivery."
At Sumiyoshi Taisha, prayers for safe delivery are accepted every day, not just on the day of the dog. Moreover, no reservation is required. After having the priest perform a prayer and a congratulatory speech, you will be awarded a "girth", "child protection amulet", and "birthstone amulet" as a hand-down.
